Songstress Selena Gomez is one of Instagram's popular celebs. She has more than 178 million followers and in the wake of the Black Lives Matter movement , she decided to help Black leaders by sharing her profile as a medium for them to raise their voices. It comes following the horrific death of George Floyd , who died in the United States of Americafrom police brutality.
On June 5, Selena took to her Instagram, sharing the heartfelt message. She shared in the post an image of a boy standing behind the American flag. She wrote in the caption "have been struggling to know the right things to say to get the word out about this important moment in history. After thinking about how best to use my social media, I decided that we all need to hear more from Black voices. Over the next few days I will be highlighting influential leaders and giving them a chance to take over my Instagram so that they can speak directly to all of us. FourMinneapolispolice officers were terminated on Tuesday, May 26, 2020, after George Floyd died. George's video, which officers held down, went viral on the Internet. In the video, an officer sticking his knee firmly on the neck and shoulders of Floyd next to the Minneapolis patrol car is seen. Floyd was seen weeping in pain in the nine-minute clip as he continued to plead,"I cannot breathe".
The person who shot the video was heard telling the officers that the man's nose was bleeding. The FBI is currently investigating Floyd's death.
